God always arranges the time and hearts of people to gather in his name. For WYD 2011 in Madrid, God called us to take a group of pilgrims from Tanzania to their accommodation and he knew that we would respond to his call with love. We found them on the way. None of them spoke Spanish. They had no money or way to reach the school where they would be welcomed as pilgrims. Although we were volunteers, we were not on-duty. It was our chance to rest. However, we decided to put into practice that beautiful phrase of St. John Paul II: "What motivates a volunteer to dedicate his life to others? First of all, the innate impulse of the heart which drives every human being to help his fellow men..”.
While it was a lot of fun to trying to communicate with them, we finally found a way, through the priest who accompanied them, who aside from his native language, also spoke Italian. While our Italian was not very fluent at that time, this small detail was not an obstacle. We did our good deed of the day! It was very emotional, worth remembering forever...
Thank you, God, for allowing us to live the gospel of Jesus Christ!
