I have had the opportunity to participate in two World Youth Days, the first one was in Toronto, Canada (2002) and was an experience that changed my life. It was the first time I traveled alone without my family, to a place where they spoke a different language than mine and without knowing what to expect, God gave me the opportunity to discover a Catholic youth, happy, united by a single feeling, being a testimony to the world that young people can live happily having models like Jesus and his mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. I warmly remember the Way of the Cross on Toronto's streets and the encounters with our now Saint John Paul II.
Then, in 2011, I traveled to WYD in Madrid, Spain and I lived it differently, just married and without children, it was very impressive to see how more than 2 million young people giving testimony of joy and with the desire to live rooted in Christ and firm in our faith. I remember Pope Benedict XVI, standing firm in the rain the night we made the vigil and showing us how much he loved the youth and the church.
I am looking forward to the WYD in Panama, because it will be closer to my country, Honduras, and I’m very anxious to live an authentic Latin party, that will light the world with happiness, music, dance, and above all with much prayer and love between brothers and sisters. On this occasion, I’ll be a young married with two young children, who will never stop being surprised at the faithfulness and love that God has for our lives.
I invite all young people to be brave and say YES to the Lord, YES, I want to have an encounter with You and YES, I want to be a witness for the whole world. The peace of Christ.
