WYD volunteers remove 15 tons of garbage from Malecón beach

Wood, plastics, tires, mattresses, fabrics, shoes and other garbage were removed from the beach thanks to the work of the international volunteers of the World Youth Day.
Equipped with backpacks, bags and gloves, more than 1000 international volunteers of WYD, housed in Panama City, have participated in cleaning of the Malecon Beach of Costa del Este, driven by the eco-friendly drive initiative my WYD
The Eco Creando Foundation, directed by Querube Alvarado, has been in charge of directing the work of the numerous groups of volunteers who have removed 15 tons of waste from the beach that has been loaded onto trucks.
For Douglas Tijerino, a 21-year-old Nicaraguan and international volunteer, participating in this activity has been "very useful because it is about helping Mother Earth to be as before, since humans are damaging it and we have filled the beaches of trash".
This work keeps focus on Pope Francis letter to the bishops, titled ‘Laudato si' (translates as Praised), on the care of the common home, and is a sign of the social commitment of the young people who participate in the WYD.
